Day 7-8 June 28-29, 2017 Regensburg, Weltenburg Abbey,Nuremburg Two days worth of images – Showers morning of day 1 and heavier rain on day two We docked in Regensburg and did a walking tour from 9:30-11:30. On shore, just ahead of us was a group with tourists with matching red umbrellas. As we got started we passed another ship (Viking?) with laundry hanging in window to dry.. We saw the famous Stone Bridge (partially covered 2nd renovation), The Old Sausage Shop and proceeded to town. Interesting buildings – some very narrow houses – the usual street cafes, cobblestone paved streets and shops – Jigsaw puzzle made of chocolate , large wall mural and Bavarian clothing. Then to Regensburg (St Peters) Cathedral. A bit more street photography on way back to ship for lunch. After a short sail some went on excursion to The Benedictine Abbey of Weltenburg the oldest monastery in Bavaria and was founded around 600 AD. by the monks of St. Columbanus. Enjoyed beer and pretzel tasting then a tour of the church. This was followed by a relaxing boat ride through the Danube Gorge to Kelheim where we boarded a bus for ride back to our ship. A Bavarian trio provided entertainment that evening and the “usual” beautiful sights as we cruised towards Nuremburg. Next morning we had a bus and walking tour of a rainy Nuremberg. First we walked around parts of the Nuremberg Castle, but not inside. Then bussed to ward the Market Square area. First to St Sebaldus church, then to the square itself with the magnificent and unusual fountain. Market was in operation but limited by the rain. Here we separated or about an hour, with groups touring the area on their own – to recollect for the bus ride back to the ship. At the square was the Church of Our Lady, small but impressive. After lunch some went on optional tour of the Nuremberg documentation. Terry and I walked back along the shore and got to see one of the locks from a different angle. Including 3 photos. One distant view with ship exiting showing size of lock – a 60foot elevation change. Then image of barge entering lock followed by one of it reaching upper level. (some post processing to highlight). Back on ship for Pirates Night and sightseeing along the canal.
